I've been looking at my 2nd Edition Space Hulk tiles for ages, saying to myself that I should press them into action for 15mm. Some after some (or a lot) of dilly-dallying a start has been made!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
One thing that will be required are a number of Xenos. I am using Pendraken aliens. At 10mm scale they don't individually tower over any of my 15mm figures, but size to shoulder height hunched up (I'll put up some comparison shots once they are finished). Once a horde of them is rushing down the corridor having eviscerated another character though I don't see the size being the main concern!<br />
<br />

These, like zombies, are the closest I get to "Canon fodder" markers. They mark the threat rather than any character and are there en-mass. So, in order to not get bogged down, I've kept the painting simple with base coats and dry brushing. As you see I'm currently grinding through the basing process, but I'll probably return to the figures to highlight teeth and claws.Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-68087172050711107812019-04-30T14:46:00.002+01:002019-04-30T14:46:34.315+01:00Undead Breakthrough<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The long Easter weekend saw the us all (the family) head of to visit relatives (via the obligatory queuing traffic). Being away from the chores of work and home would give the chance to play a game with my son, so the Skirmish Board was packed. </div>
<a name='more'></a>We played a game of "Song of Blades and Heroes" using the Breakthrough scenario in one of the supplements. The Undead were advancing through the Kingdom, so a party of warriors were dispatched to stem the tide. An abandoned village was where the forces met.<br />
<br />

The human force advanced into the centre od the village to wait for the slow advance of the undead. A few arrows were loosed at the skeleton warriors but with little effect. Suddenly a group of skeletons rushed forward, one even bursting past the central group.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

uman reinforcements moved across as it became thatthe main advance was on one side of the village. The human leader intercepted the lone boney runner.<br />
<br />

As this lone skeleton was held down there was a cry as two of the defenders were slain. There was now an open corridor for the Undead forces to rush through. The other skeletons pushed into the central area to engage their living foe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4zBSVMWfXmZ_ro97U74_a4hXcRdDbXhSPOjt1G-lSQVjIBdvLBufUn9eizkJXAkZg6C1XGms_PDt8DAgKK594QA1f6_RIQwS_HxbE73zY8Oi-tfaiUN6jcjOrQ_B9jQAc_A7O9WyKOYxC/s1600/DSC_0270.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="532" data-original-width="800" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4zBSVMWfXmZ_ro97U74_a4hXcRdDbXhSPOjt1G-lSQVjIBdvLBufUn9eizkJXAkZg6C1XGms_PDt8DAgKK594QA1f6_RIQwS_HxbE73zY8Oi-tfaiUN6jcjOrQ_B9jQAc_A7O9WyKOYxC/s320/DSC_0270.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
But the skeletons did not have it their own way. The leading scout was put out of action by the leader.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDDYxubrDxSuRJ7ue90YmR0paa_39yDQ_xz89afX9JabpBj1u0VH3MOM0s2dTh8jLAV3xp915qYYUK8LzRDQtbFjJlS7O6h0GWaM7dBJKf-FidvPIonkDR7Yacga_sXDyapRfZZPn-3lX1/s1600/DSC_0271.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="800" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDDYxubrDxSuRJ7ue90YmR0paa_39yDQ_xz89afX9JabpBj1u0VH3MOM0s2dTh8jLAV3xp915qYYUK8LzRDQtbFjJlS7O6h0GWaM7dBJKf-FidvPIonkDR7Yacga_sXDyapRfZZPn-3lX1/s320/DSC_0271.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Obviously taking heart from this the mounted Undead leader was engaged and slain. Without his influence the skeleton force literally started to crumble.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIwUpqUlQFkfa0-GJbNwIJfO3W8QEW3YzLikswKZRiVz2KDnyhcXsJCim2NM4eqfW5DHoL4XhhidUyiXVypBDJBXqykBULxuUevCX2NgXZYazHY_vTsaTDvLBNjOF3asNO9ROJ_naOJEOj/s1600/DSC_0272.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="577" data-original-width="800" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIwUpqUlQFkfa0-GJbNwIJfO3W8QEW3YzLikswKZRiVz2KDnyhcXsJCim2NM4eqfW5DHoL4XhhidUyiXVypBDJBXqykBULxuUevCX2NgXZYazHY_vTsaTDvLBNjOF3asNO9ROJ_naOJEOj/s320/DSC_0272.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The two remaining foul warroirs tried to push on but were easy meat, ironically, for the defending force and were dispatched with no aforethought. The living civilians beyond the vale were safe.<br />

My budget doesn't stretch to the nice flocked peces, so I bought in a couple of bags of some cheap plastic ones.They look plastic-y to start with, but given a spray of Green paint the foliage looks better. The spray does colour the trunks as well, but this helps disguise the gaps in the canopy. The trunks were sprays brown and dry brushed with grey.<br />

We were playing the "gunpowder plot" scenario from the Warhammer\Mordheim scenario conversion document. Basically a treasure grab, but the treasure can blow up! The second picture is from the second game where my fighter quickly dropped his barrel to help his leader, but in doing so set off a catastrophic chain reaction of exploding barrels <span data-dobid="hdw">reminiscent</span> of those last seen in the original Doom game!!<br />

Managed to get some much needed magic users painted up for my warbands. I always meant to repaint them but never got round to it and they had quite a few battles. So when I found their little brothers in my lead pile it was obvious I had to replicate the colour scheme! </span><br />

Back in the distant past (1993) the Grim Dark Future of mankind wasn't quite so grim and dark....<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Technically I should be painting something from the shop for demo purposes, but I'd taken advantage of a couple of sale items from Slap! Miniatures and in a rush of enthusiasm based them up and put them on the workspace.<br />
<br />
Now we're not going to kid ourselves about where inspiration comes from when manufacturers bring out Space Knights, Sci-Fi Templars, etc. So we'll mention no connected names!<br />
<br />
I'm getting more and more to like the fun characterful olden days of miniatures, so when deciding what colours to paint these lads I decided to go back to an old Space Marine Codex. Now I actually don't like the bright red and yellows of these 28mm figures, but in 15mm I learning that bright colours can be better (especially with my eyesight!).<br />
<br />
All goes well with the painting, and although the uniform is meant to be flat blue the figures were looking a bit plain, so I was forced to try and paint on some shoulder insignia (Gulp!). I doubt if any two are the same, but the one bit of detailing has made the dull blue armour look like it is that way on purpose, not just left unfinished (at least to me) - so aim achieved.Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-88658677140300574142018-09-05T08:39:00.000+01:002018-09-05T08:39:53.447+01:00The Things We Do<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdpVaaJ1yKE7v_keIO_vU9z1zoGhQrHA1zSbbwhINo14re9mAqb7CPKWmvac3snNIENbXVULVIB3C-q_iLZXY1GTVCuOgmvQ8uoWQsVkmOIAzkkEklgIzlsjhP8DvzCWIqxLKZOrd6OfEN/s1600/%255BUNSET%255" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdpVaaJ1yKE7v_keIO_vU9z1zoGhQrHA1zSbbwhINo14re9mAqb7CPKWmvac3snNIENbXVULVIB3C-q_iLZXY1GTVCuOgmvQ8uoWQsVkmOIAzkkEklgIzlsjhP8DvzCWIqxLKZOrd6OfEN/" data-original-width="" data-original-height=""></a></p><p>Received a strange look from my wife this morning as she came downstairs to find me at the breakfast table with a coffee basing a load of small Alien minis. </p><p>I was more surprised that she was surprised! </p><p></p>Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-35725055459040991082018-07-29T18:17:00.000+01:002018-07-29T18:19:33.071+01:00A Picture Can Lie! <p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_SdSuTTCMj_2UejzaO09wSD2Gj1y_A3c-N-FyE6s5wKwy2jKqQhnB-aOic1fUPqyZ1nzUxqzF7LB4hyFgATHHcCU8EKuzjYw-Rr4mwXiliMGzDAd1gXLpON-trQ4MWiKU4EN0Ooi91JIu/s1600/%255BUNSET%255" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_SdSuTTCMj_2UejzaO09wSD2Gj1y_A3c-N-FyE6s5wKwy2jKqQhnB-aOic1fUPqyZ1nzUxqzF7LB4hyFgATHHcCU8EKuzjYw-Rr4mwXiliMGzDAd1gXLpON-trQ4MWiKU4EN0Ooi91JIu/" data-original-width="" data-original-height=""></a></p><p>This looks like a very busy workspace, but in fact it has filled up due to the lack of available time/energy to work there. I've finished my Blue Moon Nevis. I don't see too many of the Blue Moon Range on the web, so I thought I'd get some done (for good or bad!)<br />
<br />
I thought I'd experiment a little bit with these guys with an ink wash instead of layers and trying to put some speckle on their backs and legs to break up the uniform blue skin. That's worked OK for a trial. I can't help but feel, now that I've finished them, that the ammo packs and shoulder pads have come out striking but plain. It looks quite nice standing above the table though, so maybe I just need to get them in a game and enjoy them!<br />

Not as refined as the lovely buildings from Alternative Armies, but from what I can remember from Warchest Jimboba's painted examples, roughly the same scale. The lack of straight lines in the sculpt adds to it I think.<br />

<br />
I've been delving into the Scotia Grendel scenery catalogue for some 15mm terrain. <br />
<a name='more'></a>These are originally designed for 28mm (or more likely 25mm), but certain pieces are scalable to 15mm. In fact some (like the bridge above) I think are better in 15mm. They certainly give you really nice major pieces of terrain for little outlay. The majority of their packs come in at around £8.<br />
<br />
These are the first "bare" scale comparison pictures.<br />
<br />
I'll be having more of a look through for sure, given how well the bridge works. I know that the Dwarven Fortress seems to be good as well!<br />
<br />
Also their Sci-fi range is a good fit, but I'll need a few more pieces for demonstration.<br />
<br />
Another post for another day...<br />
<br />
[Shameless plug alert]<br />
They are available through the 15mm Skirmish Supplies link to the right.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've had these pictures for a few weeks, but I'm only getting round to posting them now. At the time Targe at Kirriemuir Wargames Club was a couple of weeks away. this was to be my second show trading, and after SKELP @ Forfar I had decided to by some display shelves. But what exactly to put on them?</div>
<a name='more'></a>Some sort of basic diorama\display seemed like a good idea. As you know from previous posts I've painted a few Amera pieces. Their Ruined Buildings seemed to be perfect display shelves for my painted 15mm Sci-Fi (the few numbers I have so far anyway!), but I'd need to get them painted in some form.<br />
<br />
2 main focus' for this painting post. Firstly I wanted to do a basic, quick and dirty paintjob. You know, the sort that you do when you suddenly realise that you've got a dealine in 2 or 3 days for a table full of terrain that you've forgotten to make? The other was to try out Rustoleum's Concrete Effect spray paint for colour and texture.<br />
<br />
First up I cut out all the walls and floors from the sheets. Then, using a sharp hobby knife, cut out all the windows. This is by far the longest job of this build! I then used superglue to glue the ruins together. I've used liquid Poly before which works, but Superglue gives a better hold. I also find that hot glue doesn't really get a solid bond on the smooth plastic surface enough.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGyLQaH9pkTWB-y_iCzF5HtLk2VCSx33O6cHY3KQxXimDkgKL4-VrW69m5W8x_BOPikORbl5qHMHc26h4FJNyI_JoRczNeqiQgy8EndiTxq-f1yWvZmPHlzEMzjUjG5rY0n2IKEBce5Z_f/s1600/SAM_6766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGyLQaH9pkTWB-y_iCzF5HtLk2VCSx33O6cHY3KQxXimDkgKL4-VrW69m5W8x_BOPikORbl5qHMHc26h4FJNyI_JoRczNeqiQgy8EndiTxq-f1yWvZmPHlzEMzjUjG5rY0n2IKEBce5Z_f/s320/SAM_6766.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Next the cast of colour spray paints are assembled. As you can see cheap auto light grey, dark grey and black with some brown (Humbrol Acrylic). I've missed out a couple of tubes of acrylic grey & white paints that were for dry brushing. I wasn't going to apply a wash, as this was a "PANIC STATIONS" scenario and a wash would take to long to dry. It could always be applied in the future anyway!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij9q56CjnyhN2hW0O-zoyzKIdQtBDPF-OxkqrB-dIVWQEUEH1DV74locGWkVT9ctSoXdQ8voIsKceGEiK28Hj5Q1psS3ELEMpyiFj7RneTjrtkRjuxWDzpH8VHY21gawWTzrT4L4SY7K1E/s1600/SAM_6767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="528" data-original-width="800" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij9q56CjnyhN2hW0O-zoyzKIdQtBDPF-OxkqrB-dIVWQEUEH1DV74locGWkVT9ctSoXdQ8voIsKceGEiK28Hj5Q1psS3ELEMpyiFj7RneTjrtkRjuxWDzpH8VHY21gawWTzrT4L4SY7K1E/s320/SAM_6767.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I wanted to see how the Concrete effect went on first. The other textured Rustoleum paints I'd used had shown the background paint colour (or at least for the amount that I'd sprayed on). So I dug out an old mdf "sprue", primer one part of it with the light grey Halford's Auto primer (one side of the Xs above), left the other half bare and sprayed the Concrete effect on. As you can see the coverage is very good and there is no difference between the primed and unprimed areas. The texture is a very fine and uniform grain, and very light in colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRrfq03jO_hTm4CCA-jzr7TZkPY84QfAZbet2sb04KrEeZfrCBTdVmE0VKazcmWI10-zKv8ilyXTj0xMVhRMTJkqIjuDh5p4nlW_EPdYkk4Rkq7eNfCbfmBvFcKjLJT2uTaMao64_fAHzD/s1600/15mm_amera_ruins_1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRrfq03jO_hTm4CCA-jzr7TZkPY84QfAZbet2sb04KrEeZfrCBTdVmE0VKazcmWI10-zKv8ilyXTj0xMVhRMTJkqIjuDh5p4nlW_EPdYkk4Rkq7eNfCbfmBvFcKjLJT2uTaMao64_fAHzD/s320/15mm_amera_ruins_1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First Rough stone spray used on the floor areas to increase the texturing. The entire buildings (and floors) were primed (just to be sure), and the walls (inside and out) were blasted with Concrete effect. Light patched sprays\dustings of the dark grey and black were applied to the walls (tempered with the odd dusting of light primer as well), and the ground and floors given a light spray of the brown. Any brown on the walls (especially round the bases) helps add to the grimy look. The process is speeded up by the fact the you don't have to wait for different coats to dry between applications, in fact its probably better if there is a little bleed. The sprays dry quickly anyway. Making sure the paints had dried, to finish off I applied a heavy drybrush or two of light gray to bring out the feature edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And that's it - quick playable painted terrain. The whole painting process literally took about 30 minutes!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Managed to get some paint brushes out over the last wee while and paint up some Critical Mass <span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;">Astagar Fighters (now produced by Ral Partha Europe). The default snake\serpentine colour that springs to mind for me is green (of some shade), but mindful that I should be painting slightly brighter than my 28mm for 15mm and that I'm still learning, I hit the interweb with the broad Google of "snake" images. The colouration of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_snake" target="_blank">Milk snake</a> really struck me, so I've based the paint job on that. Really enjoyed painting them.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
There was an interesting discussion thread on [TMP] The Miniatures Page this month, started by Ed of Two Hour Wargames, entitled "<a href="http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=462716" target="_blank">What does skirmish mean to you?</a>"<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
For a bit of background I've come to Tabletop Wargaming from Roleplaying, which is probably why I am comfortable and enthused with my gaming focusing on a small number of individuals, if not characters. For play-ability this rarely goes much above 10 figures per side. This is what I'd have defined Skirmish gaming as when asked in the past.<br />
<br />
The above linked thread made me wonder though. It would appear that games with "one figure = one man" is a common element, but the general conscientious was that games with a small number of squads would also be described as Skirmish games.<br />
<br />
I suppose that once an engagement stops being a main mass battle, other actions are brief peripheral events and so would fit into the definition of Skirmish. The majority (not all of course) of gamers seem to come from a mass battle standpoint as default and then "drop down" to skirmish level, although there are seems to have been a move towards non mass battle rulesets over the last few years so the numbers may be changing slightly. Certainly looking round the discussion forums of clubs based about the centre of Scotland you'll find most chat about games like 40k, Bolt Action, Flames of War etc rather than Frostgrave, even despite it's success. I'm not saying this is wrong, just an observation.<br />
<br />
By coincidence this timed with a demo game introducing me to the Two Fat Lardies rules of "<a href="https://toofatlardies.co.uk/product-category/chain-of-command/" target="_blank">Chain of Command</a>" at <a href="http://www.falkirkwargamesclub.org.uk/" target="_blank">Falkirk Wargames Club</a>. This had two sides with 3 squads\platoons each + command, with one side having a basic objective of breaking through to the other side of the table. Despite my initial light "loads of figures" to control the size and manner of engagement was very direct, similar to the "10 figures each" level I'm used to, and at no time felt like I was manoeuvring a powerful army. Each platoon felt slightly fragile and personal much like my usual small warbands.<br />
<br />
So I think my identification of what is a Skirmish game is starting to broaden. Talk about a C-change after 15 years of gaming!<br />
<br />
Oh, and I really enjoyed my game of Chain of Command, by the way. Enough tactics and randomness to be right up my alley. I'll be look for future games of that indeed (that'll be some sort of recommendation I suppose)Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-91248138817706317432017-09-08T12:34:00.001+01:002017-09-08T12:34:05.276+01:00Critical Mass Arc Fleet Recon<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's taken me ages to get these guys finished. Probably because I ended up painting them in 3 batches (<a href="http://15mmskirmish.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/workspace-update.html" target="_blank">test figure</a>, initial squad & second squad) so naturally other things got in the way mid batch!<br />
<br />
So I have a Leader, 7 Troopers, 2 Snipers and 2 Grenade Launchers.<br />
These are all the figure variants form the old Arc Recon Command pack. Ral Partha have just released the Arc Fleet figure range but packaged differently.<br />
<br />
I happy with the way these guys have turned out. there is a lot of details with straps and small pouches all over the uniform. I've gone for a wash and highlight method, as I'm still finding my feet somewhat with details at this level. But with the consistent contrasting basing and all grouped together I can see them storming an emplacement soon.Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-15990031955820748992017-08-31T15:05:00.001+01:002017-08-31T15:05:29.399+01:00Rogue Stars Spaceport Action<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

With the Spugs fitted with Quantum Harness' I had hoped to pull the Merc's out of position and catch them on the hop. But in reality I had a lot of trouble finding a suitable destination to target, especially when you take the margin of error in target zone into consideration. My heavy weapon Spug tried to catch the enemy off guard zapping onto an elevated point, but the deviation (which the opposing player controls the direction of) had him fall off the edge, where he was shot dead.<br />

In the end the Spugs were whittled down, the large crate stack, whilst good to hide behind, was easy to cover and difficult to defend (at least for me). The game's action did finish with an entertaining hand-to-hand battle against the two leaders, both ambidextrous and landing a flurry of blows against each other.<br />
<br />
One "problem" we had was the distances on the game. halving the distances in Rogue Stars for 15mm seemed to extreme , but we weren't sure of a good alternative at the time. If anyone has any ideas/experiences to share it would be very useful.Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-27708688490866466542017-08-09T13:35:00.001+01:002017-08-09T13:35:55.147+01:00New Sci-Fi Terrain<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I was at Edinburgh's Wargame Show, "Claymore", last Saturday and thought I'd share my new 15mm Sci-Fi purchases.<br />
<br />
Yes I was busy at the <a href="https://warbases.co.uk/" target="_blank">Warbases</a> stand buying up some of their new 15mm Sci-Fi range. The Landing Pad and Control Tower which look perfect for my <a href="https://15mmskirmish.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/spaceport-wip.html" target="_blank">Space Port</a>, 3 different Hab pods (Single, Double and L-shaped) which can fit in anywhere and a WWII Bunker which will fit nicely into a more ruined Sci-Fi battle zone.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://warbases.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Dice-Tower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="799" height="320" src="https://warbases.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Dice-Tower.jpg" width="319" /></a></div>
The final biggest piece is the fabby looking <a href="https://warbases.co.uk/?product=storage-silo-dice-tower" target="_blank">Silo</a> which can double as a dice tower. A bit more of a hike in price from the other pieces, but still pretty modest a £16 it should be a big beast.Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-39827766740714765722017-08-05T09:49:00.001+01:002017-08-05T09:49:26.432+01:00Rocky Terrain with Cardboard<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In an abandoned village an Orc Necromancer has opened a door to "the other side", looking to bring forth a new army to bolster his meagre forces. Who can stop him?<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUH943XjJGutdfWouI8MDyCHW0G5XmTVDUwfgnb4KTaxN_aKSnmYYeoC6c9MU8WK0NZ362fgoF4hVh9q0I478k1fkxrPTXpJ9Dq_WdYU2bZ7gegTCd_lkHc4-sJh-lcfxNfw_pTUFVjiy-/s1600/SAM_6616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="1000" height="217" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUH943XjJGutdfWouI8MDyCHW0G5XmTVDUwfgnb4KTaxN_aKSnmYYeoC6c9MU8WK0NZ362fgoF4hVh9q0I478k1fkxrPTXpJ9Dq_WdYU2bZ7gegTCd_lkHc4-sJh-lcfxNfw_pTUFVjiy-/s320/SAM_6616.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The action is set on a 2'x2' board, with the portal in the centre. At the end of a round, if the Orc magic user is still in contact with the enchanted circle d3 skeleton warriors will emerge from the portal.<br />
<br />
The rules used were "Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes".<br />
<br />
The Orc force started with 200pts (Orc\Goblin Shaman, 3 warriors and a heavily armoured warrior)<br />
<br />
The Humans started with 300pts (Leader, archer, crossbow man, 2 pikemen and a dwarf)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicideqXEDaettJe8zLZUltsQBFMCt4BzLY_f1hFzNNL00LhM7Caej4kKwTSzzFOJgdpfOX98VFNjl9u-qCzFUXbs5hqf9jSwTewOcss212jf-6AXQJGic9fZK-kB0s1rH_yVyaF7GDe07k/s1600/SAM_6617.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicideqXEDaettJe8zLZUltsQBFMCt4BzLY_f1hFzNNL00LhM7Caej4kKwTSzzFOJgdpfOX98VFNjl9u-qCzFUXbs5hqf9jSwTewOcss212jf-6AXQJGic9fZK-kB0s1rH_yVyaF7GDe07k/s320/SAM_6617.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
A couple of immediate turnovers from the Orcs (who were operating without a Leader) allowed the Empire pikemen to rush into the action, looking to close things down before too many skeletons came into view. The archer took a high position in the ruin to snipe away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqgsVp5ObHD3M8LGXgN02MOVqJ2Nh4gQYWcjwPjiIHhHar1edlzYarTGRUBbWI3dvI8mCV3OZOIPnY7V2EjJFEYJiMUorPdx_O5LZ7bL5IbA0x8gAExEq25_pJUlnEmsUDKBDRCn0YJbLP/s1600/SAM_6618.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="499" data-original-width="800" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqgsVp5ObHD3M8LGXgN02MOVqJ2Nh4gQYWcjwPjiIHhHar1edlzYarTGRUBbWI3dvI8mCV3OZOIPnY7V2EjJFEYJiMUorPdx_O5LZ7bL5IbA0x8gAExEq25_pJUlnEmsUDKBDRCn0YJbLP/s320/SAM_6618.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The first undead were starting to appear now. The timer was ticking.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPxF4xyGzP4ptujQ8Qyr8hDlNSgfAOqNZh3O9l77syJrxj4lrB7QKBN5i_lqmhUTRK6FoByGxcmZbAw9cAkmgaSOViwkeWRgoCzs9Sf-NzmYTuvy8dzxGcxgwNiIdzvS42VPZAV3wzf14V/s1600/SAM_6619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="529" data-original-width="800" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPxF4xyGzP4ptujQ8Qyr8hDlNSgfAOqNZh3O9l77syJrxj4lrB7QKBN5i_lqmhUTRK6FoByGxcmZbAw9cAkmgaSOViwkeWRgoCzs9Sf-NzmYTuvy8dzxGcxgwNiIdzvS42VPZAV3wzf14V/s320/SAM_6619.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Unfortunately for the Humans a quick turnover was rolled, leaving the pikemen exposed, having not had a chance to push on an attack. With the the undead activating on a better stat than the Orcs, they rushed in to swamp the humans, and one went out of fight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNVfG3rm61k-dby0VXODZHFSJ4qDigRjFOMlTpY9COKDtgsdawx8uNOlNvpJ05pLPjinCjvzq5K9ypRv7yG6lccNnHe6Adx91pRmIb02wC5nxGJwy0RV3sAl8fEiuJnyDzDqKKTQZ_8g1W/s1600/SAM_6620.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="800" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNVfG3rm61k-dby0VXODZHFSJ4qDigRjFOMlTpY9COKDtgsdawx8uNOlNvpJ05pLPjinCjvzq5K9ypRv7yG6lccNnHe6Adx91pRmIb02wC5nxGJwy0RV3sAl8fEiuJnyDzDqKKTQZ_8g1W/s320/SAM_6620.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The Empire Leader made the tough decission to make a tactical withdrawal to the ruin, as it looked to late to rescue the remaining pikeman.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikYHFbgA3nhFMp6GoyvnQbE_pLd6nLV4gojpxrg3BRX4br2xAx51PGFLEXDy7lofShJmiORny625553uGG51Qnlj8F_Z1Y8p4-2FABeAkNoMeUVmXA1Wa3t8B1WeXVu-hpxET08P-yKKN7/s1600/SAM_6621.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikYHFbgA3nhFMp6GoyvnQbE_pLd6nLV4gojpxrg3BRX4br2xAx51PGFLEXDy7lofShJmiORny625553uGG51Qnlj8F_Z1Y8p4-2FABeAkNoMeUVmXA1Wa3t8B1WeXVu-hpxET08P-yKKN7/s320/SAM_6621.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
As predicted, the undead took another scalp, as more skeletons continued to appear.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijkau3crkWRJtKj8c-Cqjk-VIyy37Jb6fZlkOuXwsjKHNStO-47DTTW4E-yA8dxLpZvVmoKgcUoi9C-oya0kIdnjy9PwCcHgrqnJU53oha2ekiHnm-KoOZfR6FTfqeuaBo0P-1yFF1wNeG/s1600/SAM_6622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="594" data-original-width="800" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijkau3crkWRJtKj8c-Cqjk-VIyy37Jb6fZlkOuXwsjKHNStO-47DTTW4E-yA8dxLpZvVmoKgcUoi9C-oya0kIdnjy9PwCcHgrqnJU53oha2ekiHnm-KoOZfR6FTfqeuaBo0P-1yFF1wNeG/s320/SAM_6622.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
With the human crossbow still making his way from the opposite flank, the defensive position was set. The two warriors would block the access ladder and the archer would whittle down the enemy. With no archers in their midst, the tactic seemed sound. Just in time as well, as the skeletal heads started to appear round the side of the ruin.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The humans had a grand view of the portal from the ruin top floor. and also all the bone heads that they'd have to deal with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs4r-_oZlhuJIfGMZeu-HWVbHSVTk7E0e4_WEY9I0usxJ6Ai8YmXMCvhv9OcE4aECByaR_slOykNYLuMgsGD3hiUtB9mWt92ZGj1bgRjMX1AgLMxuOBk0STPqSy2qYyEyCxI5UsmYa3Xei/s1600/SAM_6625.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="492" data-original-width="800" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs4r-_oZlhuJIfGMZeu-HWVbHSVTk7E0e4_WEY9I0usxJ6Ai8YmXMCvhv9OcE4aECByaR_slOykNYLuMgsGD3hiUtB9mWt92ZGj1bgRjMX1AgLMxuOBk0STPqSy2qYyEyCxI5UsmYa3Xei/s320/SAM_6625.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The crossbowman had finally reached accross the table. The skeletons moved in to intercept, but instead of running for cover he stepped up to take them on. Soon 3 undead were returned to their former state. Unwilling to stand in safety and watch someone else battle, the Dwarf rushed down the ladder to defend the front doorway.<br />
<br />

The troops gathered round the front of the ruin to storm it, with the Orc Sorcerer finally coming away from the summoning circle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The Dwarf in the doorway had other plans though, and gruesomely slew the undead warrior in the doorway bottleneck, causing some minor jitters in the orc ranks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The human's had not realised that the Orc magic user did provide a ranged threat, as it sent a fireball at the sniping archer, knocking him off his perch and setting hte building on fire. Fortunately the Leader had already vacated the first floor.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The Orcs and Undead started to flank the ruin now with their superior force size. The humans started to form up at each others side, hoping their superior skills would be a match for their drastic lack of numbers.<br />

It was about time I started to get some more Sci-fi battle field terrain done, so I dug out with some <a href="http://www.15mmskirmishsupplies.co.uk/page/terrain" target="_blank">15mm Amera Trenches and craters</a>..<br />
<a name='more'></a>Having done a few Amera pieces for 28mm (and <a href="http://15mmskirmish.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/amera-wilderness-terrain.html" target="_blank">15mm suitable hills</a>) I've become a bit of a fan of the vaccuum formed plastic terrain. It doesn't mean that I know what I'm doing through, as we'll see, so you can hopefully learn from my mistakes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigoK1U-crj-M-NYVwDUsRKRkhCQQdZCgIX3cKQPO9p5SCVT19Y6HzSkCfJpW4ulrt-GF8Exyt9vCrtmT__9-9e0F_ColrO7EX5no7ZH6vIEd-3e9SGC1d3uG6cmTpHjFGsv8rR8bER_Nh8/s1600/DSC_0060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigoK1U-crj-M-NYVwDUsRKRkhCQQdZCgIX3cKQPO9p5SCVT19Y6HzSkCfJpW4ulrt-GF8Exyt9vCrtmT__9-9e0F_ColrO7EX5no7ZH6vIEd-3e9SGC1d3uG6cmTpHjFGsv8rR8bER_Nh8/s320/DSC_0060.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
First off, as ever, the pieces were cut out and given a wash with some soapy water to remove any release agent. In previous projects I'd used a textured spray to add a bit more graininess to the surface, but being bare ground\mud I decided to back to the tradition sand and PVA method.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDuUX8zCYh3xrRC2ZuQqKgBE5F7cHne0BFpSi3E3i0iaAnUGWfWk4v5DXseYuBBbw5zOEWI2SGXbgV45BIX5AGDDpLEU9Lg6iCPEBW3sS9sdvHH-vEPo6stnuE2R4evYfMX3Qsw-0xgbOp/s1600/DSC_0064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="373" data-original-width="800" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDuUX8zCYh3xrRC2ZuQqKgBE5F7cHne0BFpSi3E3i0iaAnUGWfWk4v5DXseYuBBbw5zOEWI2SGXbgV45BIX5AGDDpLEU9Lg6iCPEBW3sS9sdvHH-vEPo6stnuE2R4evYfMX3Qsw-0xgbOp/s320/DSC_0064.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
So I slapped on the slightly watered down PVA where I wanted the extra sand to stick, poured over the sand and left to dry. The experienced among you may already see a problem!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibgvPbOQ6vE-oNtELlw2VtcbsF0raRGQaCbWyQGcn-tCnQatD30gcJQJ_lfLwryWNnqME8giqj0O4n0mUU21OP6pFDqTJUORLMcyT_m5b-U743rKaHbDyx2p-y9gEiySKay1faJ2bGdH3z/s1600/DSC_0067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="554" data-original-width="800" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibgvPbOQ6vE-oNtELlw2VtcbsF0raRGQaCbWyQGcn-tCnQatD30gcJQJ_lfLwryWNnqME8giqj0O4n0mUU21OP6pFDqTJUORLMcyT_m5b-U743rKaHbDyx2p-y9gEiySKay1faJ2bGdH3z/s320/DSC_0067.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
After a day, everything is dry. I covered the pieces with brown spray paint and painted areas with a darker cheap acrylic to give more variation on the ground and also give the wooden trench walkways and walls a different colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8e4EJF3Bwbf5ZqUOOrsvVWYKdMG1SAcMIQnfIc8BiB22SP2tqZB54bjH_4HOsOwf8TC8XjjLMMb3WnW-noWAHTtkTDrUymzUr8Z3vfO1klFM-xcTaWil8L-wxgOQ5HlHKrbXv-C9Rcd1T/s1600/DSC_0074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="492" data-original-width="800" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8e4EJF3Bwbf5ZqUOOrsvVWYKdMG1SAcMIQnfIc8BiB22SP2tqZB54bjH_4HOsOwf8TC8XjjLMMb3WnW-noWAHTtkTDrUymzUr8Z3vfO1klFM-xcTaWil8L-wxgOQ5HlHKrbXv-C9Rcd1T/s320/DSC_0074.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Next is the dark wash. Brown and black paint, water and some PVA to help bind any loose sand. Here is where the problem started.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0dj8nlSOVRZiSxjP-soeHdmXKZ2MFX-d2gNTKi3e3rjnYLYGiOMQYjcG3szNeOp-YQUkYsZoicTqg3Nwiv3aeo-ZO5uDxn4xpwlqnyLCkYHKeukqTzc7wweeudNmrLB7DUtuuonXfOKBP/s1600/DSC_0075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="486" data-original-width="800" height="194" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0dj8nlSOVRZiSxjP-soeHdmXKZ2MFX-d2gNTKi3e3rjnYLYGiOMQYjcG3szNeOp-YQUkYsZoicTqg3Nwiv3aeo-ZO5uDxn4xpwlqnyLCkYHKeukqTzc7wweeudNmrLB7DUtuuonXfOKBP/s320/DSC_0075.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The liquid took away some of the sand that I'd glued down at the start. I should have primed the plastic a suitable colour (eg black or brown) BEFORE gluing on the sand. This is the method that Amera recommend (as I discovered later!). A little bit of missing sand is no problem, but the glaring white of the plastic and the fact that more flaked off as I tried to fix the problem, left the air with a tinge of blue! So the only thing was to step away for a day, let it all dry and do a repair with spray and paint again (carefully) and a sparing PVA wash was also done again to try and give the surface more protection.<br />
<br />
After that it was a case of dry brushing a 2 or 3 applications of gradually lightening brown (and a little green on the mud slopes to add variety).<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivdXK6Pc6tZ3nZ8KJDtF8Jvmlz2GJt-9bhbBa_ppv8KJ9lcrrptfCyjAQ2sB25Da5hp10hEeE0nygJ7t9YJJjCVgi70TNp1o4M5pkHfgb5J6HzamJPknwSXB3h6m7lDGX4VxgfSlxA_DN5/s1600/DSC_0077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="456" data-original-width="800" height="182" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivdXK6Pc6tZ3nZ8KJDtF8Jvmlz2GJt-9bhbBa_ppv8KJ9lcrrptfCyjAQ2sB25Da5hp10hEeE0nygJ7t9YJJjCVgi70TNp1o4M5pkHfgb5J6HzamJPknwSXB3h6m7lDGX4VxgfSlxA_DN5/s320/DSC_0077.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And we are done.<br />
<br />
As you can see the trenches are pretty roomy, but this makes the gameplay in them easy. The height is just right for soldier heads to be peeking over the top. The <a href="http://www.15mmskirmishsupplies.co.uk/product/spugs" target="_blank">Spugs</a> are based on UK 1 pence coins, which are around 20mm wide, just for the sake of scale comparison.<br />
<br />
Especially for Ivan Sorensen, here are some pictures at ground level to see high high the trenches come.<br />

With a few other non-gaming projects getting in the way it has taken a while to get these ruins completed, but finally they are.<br />
<a name='more'></a>Following on from the <a href="https://15mmskirmish.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/fantasy-ruins-wip.html" target="_blank">previous post</a>, once all the beams, floors and walls had been painted\washed\dry brushed appropriately I mixed up some textured paint for the outside render.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELU1dUobILqqMqqghF3eCg-jtFvWYz8Ee21K7vRaF2MVzgphSpgWdC-E10nFybjc01NtEupzUdjJjWmC5ZAw6Otbfti1VTW9edj7zpnojhyphenhyphenNwcYmXLk4egu2tmtvByhtY5jkArbLMXGpU/s1600/SAM_6583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhELU1dUobILqqMqqghF3eCg-jtFvWYz8Ee21K7vRaF2MVzgphSpgWdC-E10nFybjc01NtEupzUdjJjWmC5ZAw6Otbfti1VTW9edj7zpnojhyphenhyphenNwcYmXLk4egu2tmtvByhtY5jkArbLMXGpU/s320/SAM_6583.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This haphazard slop consisted of paint, pva, ready mixed wall filler (spackle) and a bit of sand. I wanted the consistency to be nice and sloppy for a thin-ish coat. I also didn't want a very sandy finish , I wasn't basing figures here, so I was mean in the amount of sand used. The surface still came out quite rough none the less. I tried to leave room for the beams as they were being PVA glued into place right after the render was applied (ie still wet). The potential for mess was quite high!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUPF9enKuwo2xruMbDpftvKqJALwqjsWDzk9u0x8D6GUjuHfY6CQ2755S8vUrlEck_acCB4JplodwlfAv4zahR3N09ba5gxcRcfLYkoZ3qgc09cxvUDCgwWCuNkrJ3iRcUbfCBA6g0PC4s/s1600/SAM_6584.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUPF9enKuwo2xruMbDpftvKqJALwqjsWDzk9u0x8D6GUjuHfY6CQ2755S8vUrlEck_acCB4JplodwlfAv4zahR3N09ba5gxcRcfLYkoZ3qgc09cxvUDCgwWCuNkrJ3iRcUbfCBA6g0PC4s/s320/SAM_6584.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Once all dry I weathered the walls slightly with a light wash, dabbing liberally with some kitchen roll to break up the texture. I gave the render a light dry brush of off white to try and tie the walls shades together. I also touched up the beams best I could where the render or dry brush had lapped onto the darker colour.<br />

The ruins were still looking a bit tidy for me, so it was a case of putting some rubble onto the floored areas, trying to make sure not to impede any vantage points for figures during the game (in front of windows, etc)<br />
<br />
To finish off I bought in a sheet of Classic Tiles from <a href="http://war-bases.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=107_119&product_id=1238" target="_blank">Warbases</a> to do the roofs.<br />
<br />
I am very pleased with the end result. I need to make some rubble terrain patches to scatter round the table next.Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764161429582166144.post-55875721491575924522017-04-09T09:57:00.000+01:002017-05-23T21:55:07.175+01:00Fantasy Ruins WIP<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

After reading a post on <a href="https://gisby.wordpress.com/2017/01/19/new-project-martian-flyers/" target="_blank">Gisby's Gaming Blog</a> I had a look at the <a href="http://www.redvectors.co.uk/" target="_blank">REDvectors</a> site. One thing I've fancied is a fantasy 15mm mdf ruins kit. The pictures above and below are 28mm from the REDvectors site, but definitely fitted in with the style I like (Tudor-ish), so I got in touch with Mick @ REDvectors.<br />
<a name='more'></a>He redesigned these ruins for 15mm (it's not just a case of hitting the "rescale button") for me. It was a great experience and the results have come out exactly as above but for 15mm (including the pile of ladders). I'll be getting back in touch for him to "rescale" a couple of the other ruined kits he has displayed!<br />

All that remains is the build and paint. MDF is obviously a bit smooth, so I'm going to put a textured paint on the outer walls. The beams would make this awkward so I've started the painting process before the build.<br />

The floors have been sprayed brown and given a dark wash. The both sides of the walls have been given a spray of white. The insides will be given a paint of some different colour. Looking around, people seem to paint the outside beams black or brown. Neither truly suit me, so I've sprayed them black with a light spray of brown , which I'll add to with some lighter dry brushing (at the same time as the flooring).<br />
<br />
I've still to figure out exactly how to do the textured paint. I don't want it too rough and sandy so I'm going towards wall filler (spackle), pva and some colour. As you can see this is getting close, so best decide (and test!)Sam Patehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17141121566526149379noreply@blogger.com0
